26 Little Things

The beginning of the new year is typically when we announce our resolutions, goals and expectations but I’m looking to take a step back and find small ways to enjoy life.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a dreamer and I love watching other people achieve what they only thought they could in their wildest dreams but dreaming is not realistic for me anymore. I tend to get hurt when mine don’t come true. I’ll be forever cheering for all of you lovelies from the sidelines though =).

This year, I’m only looking to find a little light where I can in the months to come. When 2017 didn’t treat me too kindly, I felt as if I missed many of the little joys in life. I’m looking to reclaim them and love them as they are received. So, when you see my hashtag #26littlethings around the internet, it means that I was able to find some small bit of happiness. Maybe I’ll get to witness you finding a bit of happiness of your own because I wish you nothing but.

Here is my humble list of 26 Little Things that I want to take joy in this year.

  1. Look up at the sky for 10 minutes. Write about it, draw it or take a picture as a memory.
  2. Try a new recipe and share it with family and friends.
  3. Visit a new place in your current town/city.
  4. Spend the entire day without electronics or technology.
  5. Watch a sunrise.
  6. Read a book waterside (pool, beach, lake etc).
  7. Create a piece of artwork and display it somewhere proudly in the house.
  8. Buy flowers for your favorite room in the house.
  9. Have dinner by candlelight.
  10. Allow yourself to buy something you really wanted.

  12. People watch for an hour in a relaxing spot.
  13. Pamper your day with an at home spa.
  14. Have family and friends over for a potluck.

  1. I love this idea! It’s such a positive way of thinking to make a list of things to take joy in, and I really like the list you put together. It makes me want to do some of it too! I hope you’ll be able to do some of it soon!

  2. Like Cat said, this is such a great idea! This is a good list of things that will bring joy in multiple ways. I hope this will work out well for you! Thanks for reminding me that it’s the little things that make our lives better along with the big things!

  3. Happy New Year. This is such a fantastic idea, and I am glad that you are looking for the smaller things to bring some happiness back into your life. When you have been through so much, I can understand why it would be hard to see the larger bits of light. Please know you have a lot of people that are supporting you as well. I am here if you ever need to talk. 🙂

  4. I know what you mean about slowing down…I had a bad experience with a death in the family…and the way it happened-suicide was quite traumatic for everyone and made me realize that I never really appreciated the things in my life and the people, too. I will do better.
